Mar 6, Curfews in Cherokee County and Town of Murphy have been lifted 6 Mar 2012 at 11:17am Friday Night, March 2, 2012, Cherokee County and the Town of Murphy, NC were hit by an EF-2 tornado that caused a lot of property damage, but no serious injuries or deaths. Following this event, a state of emergency was declared for Cherokee County and the Town of Murphy and curfews were imposed. All curfews expired on Sunday, March 4th, at 2:00 pm. The clean-up continues, businesses are re-opening, schools are back in session, and the residents of the area are resuming their lives. While we are saddened that many people had some serious property damage, we are grateful that nobody died. It has been gratifying to see the great majority of our friends and neighbors come together to help those in need. Mar 3, State of Emergency has been declared for Cherokee County, NC and the T... 3 Mar 2012 at 2:17pm Following the tornado(s) that hit parts of Cherokee County, NC and the eastern part of Murphy, there has been a State of Emergency declared and a curfew has been established for several specific areas. Hopefully the infrastructure will be restored within the next few days. Several millions of dollars in property damages have been reported, but no loss of any lives. WKRK radio in Murphy posted a recording of the press conference where the Mayor and Sheriff announced the emergency measures and answered questions about what is happening. In a separate announcement, the Town of Murphy is under a separate curfew. We are happy that most of the areas of the county and the majority of the town of Murphy did not have any damage from the storm, but we are sorry for the property losses that have been suffered by our friends and neighbors.
